Lewis And Clark:Off The Record

On a muggy July morning Meriwether Lewis was carving a Lewis & Clark trail sign into a piece of granite near White Cloud, KS.  His head was still aching from the night before, when he and Clark got drunk and gambled away the expedition’s astrolabe at the nearby Indian Casino. “How come you always draw yourself pointing on these signs, I can point too, you know”, Clark’s voice sounded even more annoying than usual, “And you never ask for directions”. “Sometimes I feel like we are married” muttered Lewis and ordered everyone back on the boat.” Clark lingered on the shore long enough to scribble “Clark was here first” on the granite and ran to catch up with a slowly moving boat.  The expedition was only two months old….
