Gambling with God

If you thought that this blog gets the most hits for my ground-breaking “Behind The Iron Curtain” series you were wrong. Some time ago I wrote about a curious ad on Craigslist from a woman who needed some help, and there is not a day goes by when this infamous post does not get a few hits. As a matter of fact, if I just mentioned all the search strings leading to this post, I could probably triple my readership. I get satisfaction in a thought that perverts come here looking for something dirty and leave educated about the Soviet dentistry and toilet paper shortages. Maybe that will get them off their perversion and into the library or something. Maybe not..

So I am checking the Craigslist for the next hit and I find this thoughtful ad from an older lady.

Christian lady looking for Christian man – 60

Family orientated Christian lady looking for Christian man to spend time with. Must like dogs.
Active in church. Enjoy water aerobics, square dancing, board games. Like to go out for Italian, Mexican, or Chinese. Like to go to comedy movies, Starlight, New Theater Restaurant. Enjoy occasional glass of white wine.
Occasionally visit the casinos and play slot machines.
Looking for someone to share interests. Like to snuggle and hold hands. Must like to spend time with family. Must believe in God. Friendship first and when the time is right romance.

For some reason this lady’s gambling habit struck me as being at odds with the rest of the God-loving message of this ad. So I checked around and it turns out that the Bible didn’t have much to say about gambling, but some people still insist it’s a sin. I don’t care either way but the contradictions of this ad reminded me of this song. And on the day when everyone posts the same lame drunk Muppet clip, I thought I’d post something in a color dear to my heart.
