Old Photos: Kansas Pool Hall

I want this America back. Mostly for the hats. Hats, and no women in bars. Definitely no women in bars. But mostly for the cool hats.

Somewhere in Kansas, 1955.

  • Yowza!  I wonder where this could have been?? In the 50’s most of Kansas was still pretty cranky about Prohibition being repealed (Ks was dry until 1948). This is the same Kansas which tried to enforce it’s dry state status in the airspace above the state. Probably 25% of the state is still dry (by square miles, not population).

If I were a gambling man, I’d call this as Dodge City, KCK, Colby or Baxter Springs (one hell-raising town, as the song goes).

    • I tried to search, but it looks like these never made it in print.

  • Donna Wood

In all the old pictures from my childhood the men wore hats outside.  Also, the women wouldn’t THINK of going to church without a hat on.

  • I’ve still got a couple of those old (circa 12940s) frayed engineer hats my maternal grandpa left me; in Carrollton in the 50s they were all the rage…
