  • My mom loved Ricky Nelson, and I liked him too, as well as his sons. I would listen to him up in Iowa over the summer when all I could get was oldies radio.

  • Ricky was The Shit!

  • I’m in love all over again when I look at these pictures. I had Ricky’s face plastered all over the walls of my room when I was fourteen or so.

  • It was awesome to meet you today. What a great afternoon. I hope Mom lets me know the next time you’re coming by. My girls enjoyed visiting with your daughter, too.

    • Rachel, I literally felt so at home that I didn’t want to leave (and I wouldn’t if I didn’t have to return Samantha’s friend to her parents). Thanks to your family for making us feel so welcome.

  • I travel for JOOLS

Saw his boys perform on a cruise a few years back. Performance was great but I’ll not forget how gracious they were to the passengers. They stayed to shake hands and sign autographs with everyone and really seemed to be enjoying the cruise themselves. Shortly after returning from the cruise I read where the plane they took after the cruise had trouble and almost crashed.

And just wanted to note for the record I really appreciate the edit feature you added to your blog. I use it frequently and I wish more bloggers would use it.

These are a great reminder for how BIG an artist Rick Nelson was back when he was the “Crown Prince of Rock & Roll.” Many of these pictures were used by Life Magazine for their cover story on Rick.

Thanks for posting and sharing them.

  • I think that Google hosting old Life Archives is probably one of the greatest things on the internet. I find most of these purely by accident searching for things tied to KS or MO.Thanks for your comment
