the building on the left … someone can tell you the name, but this is 20th / Pershing facing west; the building is renovated and for lease, just west of the old post office / bank that is now part of the IRS complex. the photographer was standing on the north slope of the end of Penn Valley Park — Liberty Memorial is to the left out of view, and Union Station (the second one / the one we know now) is on the right out of view.

(ps, e-thing on your site is way slow right now / images too big? WP being silly? loading post took a while, and now, comment taking minutes to process … : (

ooh, just got “internal server error.” hmm.

  • That was the BMA (Business Men’s Assurance) Company for years and years until they built the white structure up by Penn Valley Park (now expensive condos). It used to have an illuminated tower on the top that indicated the weather….

  • I am running a program on the server. It should be OK shortly. I knew the building looked familiar. I think there is a word “school” on the sign.

  • Tracy, I added the new photo to the post. Thanks.

  • I would like to find a picture of a shop in downtown KC that had huge dolls in the window.  I thought it was one of the Russell Stover Candy shops.
